About Me

Dr. Kathy L Siepker, a scholar and educator in gerontological social work, is committed to advancing research that fosters healthier and more equitable communities for vulnerable and marginalized older adults. Her primary focus lies in exploring innovative and non-pharmacological interventions for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, as well as providing support for their family caregivers. Dr. Siepker's research extends to identifying health disparities within aging populations, with a particular emphasis on underrepresented groups.

Since joining the University of Texas at Arlington in September 2018, Dr. Siepker has successfully secured funding from prestigious sources, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Borchard Center on Law & Aging. Her outstanding dedication to gerontological social work research and education earned her the Faculty Achievement Award for Outstanding Early Career Scholarship and Teaching from the Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work in 2021.

Dr. Siepker has further enhanced her expertise through competitive training programs, such as the Research Career Institute in Mental Health of Aging and the Alzheimer’s Association Interdisciplinary Summer Research Institute, both funded by the NIH. Actively engaged in advocacy, she serves the aging community at local, state, and national levels. Her roles include Community Educator for the Alzheimer’s Association Dallas and Northeast Texas Chapter, and she has been recognized as a Dementia Friends Champion for Dementia Friendly USA.
